Simply RSS App Launches on Facebook

A brief post to start the week…
Last Friday, the Simply RSS application was added to Facebook’s ever-growing roster of third-party apps. Apparently a vast improvement over its predecessor, My RSS, Simply RSS allows users to post feeds from up to three sites on their Facebook profiles.
Simply RSS is not perfect – the people at FacebookProfile have already pointed out some of the strengths and weaknesses. Nevertheless, company-sponsored RSS feeds are an intriguing option on Facebook. After all, any user that adds a company’s feed to their profile is implicitly endorsing that company and exposing it to their friends.
The New York Times already added Simply RSS to its Facebook product page – they’re the first company profile to feature the feeds. As we mentioned last week, the Times seems to have mastered a major key to success in Web 2.0 spaces – they make substantive content readily available and sharable. Companies would be wise to follow suit as they build out their own product pages.
